Cyber Essentials certification for AMS
[28/09/16] Analox Military Systems has been certified by Cyber Essentials after implementing controls to prevent cyber attacks.
The Cyber Essentials scheme has been developed by the Government and industry to provide businesses with clarity on good basic cyber security practice.
The scheme defines a focused set of controls which, when put in place, will provide organisations with basic protection from the most widespread internet based threats to cyber security.
Technology that can be exposed to common cyber attacks include computers that are capable of connecting to the internet, such as desktop PC’s, laptops, tablets and smartphones, and internet connected servers including email, web and application servers.
The most common types of cyber attack are phishing (malware infection through users clicking on malicious email attachments or website links) and hacking (exploitation of known vulnerabilities in internet connected servers and devices using widely available tools and techniques).
Five controls for Cyber Essentials certification
To mitigate these threats Cyber Essentials outlines five controls that an organisation must enforce in order to be awarded certification.
The controls are: boundary firewalls and internet gateways, secure configuration, user access control, malware protection and patch management.
Analox Military Systems (AMS), part of the Analox group, are involved in transferring sensitive information, so it is essential for them to have a high level of internet security.
Analox’s IT team have been reviewing their online security procedures and working hard to set up the five essential controls, including giving up their spare time during the weekends to ensure they meet the requirements to achieve accreditation.
All staff have been briefed on how to keep company data secure to help eliminate any breaches of security both at work and home.
Over 1500 companies have been awarded a certificate through an approved accreditation body, and Analox is now one of them.
Chris Martin, IT Controller, said: “Cyber security is an important part of any organisation, and Analox understand the need for proper controls to be in place in order to prevent any internet based attacks. We have implemented the five basic controls outlined by Cyber Essentials and a qualified assessor has verified this information, so we can say with confidence that we have at least the basic levels of protection required to defeat some of the most common cyber attacks.”
